Now That’s What We Call A Living Room…
Last week we highlighted the outdoor living space at our Palm Desert project. This week, let’s go back inside and visit the living room. Indoors as well as outdoors, our clients are all about entertaining.
As you can see, the living room has a wall of windows, which provides a flood of natural light as well as an amazing view. To properly balance and frame the scene, we needed strong interior elements on both flanking walls.
On the right wall, we constructed a beautiful stone travertine wall with a contemporary fireplace “trough.” Above the open fire configuration, we frame a flatscreen with a metal hood-like surround. To its right, a seating area is incorporated in the marble platform. As it saves space, the integrated arrangement offers additional, unique seating.
To create walls with layers and texture, we used stone, fabric and wall coverings with dimension. This had a marvelous effect, ranging from crisp and solid to undulating and plush.
On the left wall, we added a wine reserve/cellar with front and side glass walls. Being able to peer into the wine cellar adds a new element and surprise to the room. In addition, to enhance service, across from the entry to the cellar we created two cocktail bars with a central serving hall. One bar services the living room and the other, the dining room. The configuration is great for attending to guests and allows views and communication between the living and dining areas.
We highlight the living room’s view into the cellar by framing its glass wall with floor-to-ceiling burl walnut columns that ”flair” at the top. A custom concrete tasting table helps define the transparent wall so visitors don’t accidentally walk into it!
