The Tokyo Sky Tree, the world’s tallest tower, opened yesterday, May 22nd. The tower, twice the size of the Eiffel Tower, stands at 634m. Close to eight thousand people came out to celebrate the opening despite the heavy winds and rain, which shut down two lifts and stranded visitors for a short time on an observation deck.
The Tokyo Sky Tree, which withstood some damage from the devastating March 2011 earthquake, has become somewhat of a symbol of Japan’s resilience against that tragedy.
